This morning, it was raining when we got up to go to Ulpan. It never ever ever rains in Israel in July. Except today. It wasn't raining very hard, but the Californians were freaking out about getting wet. Big Marty called Nir to say that there was "no way" he was walking to the Ulpan in this. Nir had us call Michal (the teacher) to tell her that we were going to be late because we were waiting for the rain to stop before leaving the house. It was slightly pathetic. They should come to Rochester, where it pours almost every day during the spring and we have no choice but to go to class!
For tomorrow (Thursday), Oranim has organized a trip to the Carmel for all the ISC groups (from Ramla, Nes Tziona, and Tel-Aviv). It's only a day trip, but we (the Ramla groups) are staying in nearby Haifa for the weekend to see the sights. Here's the itinerary just for Thursday:
- Explore the beautiful Ramat Hanadiv Gardens in Zichron Ya'akov where the Baron Rothschild is buried.
- Hike through Nahal Kelach. (The hike is a light walk through a rich Mediterranean landscape.)
- View the area from the Muchraka where Elijah smote the false prophets of the Baal in the Biblical story.
- Visit the Druze village Daliyat El Carmel and explore the local market.
- View the multi-cultural city of Haifa and the Bahai Gardens from atop Mt. Carmel and explore the German colony, built by the German Templers.
