Volunteering: Week Two

This was our second full week of volunteering.
Here's what my schedule looked like...

Sunday: Soup Kitchen
Monday: Arab Kadima
Tuesday: Ma'as
Wednesday: Senior Center
Thursday: Soup Kitchen

Nir introduced Ma'as affectionately as the "retard place." They employ people with various special needs and mental disabilities to basically work as cheap labor. It's not a sweat shop or anything. Essentially, they take products and make small changes to them, repackage them, and sell them for a profit. They told us that the profits go toward operational costs and what is left over goes to the special people. I'm not sure what the business model actually is (or if one exists). There was absolutely nothing for us to do at Ma'as except provide free labor to them, doing the same work as the special people but for no salary. Everyone pretty much hated it and we're not going back after this week.
